You can call UK consulate and ask them for this information. They have a paid phone service (~2 dollars per minute) available. If you do not mind me asking, why are you going through the pain of getting a transit visa?

Well, it makes perfect sense to change the status to F1. And as you said that she will be going to dental school ( 2yr International program), i assume that the expenses will be sky high. F1 status would be helpful in securing the student loan ( for the future semesters) if needed.
This is my advise.
1) You don't have to do the transfer urself or neither there is a need for a lawyer
2) The schools International Students Office will guide you on doing the transfer. They would give you the checklist of the documents to be submitted, the website links where u can download the documents, fee to be paid, etc.
3) It is a simple and hassle free process

I thought if you invoked your AC21 - you hopped on to the pending-immigrant boat leaving the non-immigrant boat altogether ... and that boat is now gone ...
To get back to a non-immigrant boat .. you may have to get a new one ... but in that case you'll have to show your intent of non-permanent stay in the US ... which your 485 would contradict anyways ...
A better option would be to have your legs in both the boats for as long as possible - i.e. transfer your H1 (and not get on to your EAD) while your 485 is still pending.
I may be wrong .. but this is how i perceive it

Yes. As long as your PD was current in some point of time you can file WOM. Be sure to include Department of State as a defendant so it could be ordered to release a visa number for you.

I do not think it is a normal scenario. A lot of my friends work for in the software industry. There are generally no delays in getting a paystub if salary is deposited regularly.
Please ask your employer to be more prompt at providing pay stubs as you need those for everything that requires income proof.

My company has applied for my wife's L1B to L2 conversion on 28-OCT-2008 at Vermont Service Center. Anyone knows how much time typically it takes for this request?
When we are checking USCIS website, we are getting the following message continuously. My wife called to USCIS and USCIS said, case status is valid only in the system and the person does not know why that error message is coming.
"Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
Your case can not be found at this time in Case Status Online. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, you can either call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283, or you can send an e-mail to uscis.webmaster@dhs.gov."
We are thinking that probably lots of applications are pending and that could be the reason. Once they pick up, it will be changed to Case received and pending and finally a decision will come.
Do you know if this is something we need to worry about that something might be wrong which might cause a long delay? Actually my wife is pregnant and she can travel back by air only till January 15th, 2008 at the maximum. So we are just worried.

Please tell USCIS that your wife is waiting for her bonus money and she is not readily available to join you on L2, USCIS would mail her Green Card overseas. In my case, my wife needs EAD in order to work as L2 only allows her entry to the States and her visa would "clone" mine (ie. whatever my expiry date is, hers will expire).
Should I also apply for EAD too even though my L1a visa already permits me to work legally here in the US?

Hard to tell from this (reduced) image, but the goose is not on one of the focus points so I suspect the camera selected the ducks in the background. The depth of field for your conditions is around 8 feet so you can see it's easy for much of the image (and the goose in particular) to be out of focus.

I have a situation here and it may not be very different from what many others are facing as well. But just that I am not sure what I should be doing now.
I have a H1B visa and I am working for a company in NY state. I will be leaving the company on this Friday (laid off) . My company has informed me that they can hold my H1B for upto a month after which they have asked me to leave the country if they cant find another assignment for me.
My question is :
1) Can I transfer my H1B to some consulting company , that can atleast hold my H1B so that I stay in status? If anyone knows any info on some good consulting xompanies in NYC , that would be very helpful info for me.
If you go after 1 month you will need paystubs for that month. Transfers are a little difficult to come by these days, specially the ones related to consulting companies. Try and find a job asap and make sure you paper work(stubs,new company) is upto date
2) My wife is on H1B as well .. If I go as a dependent (H4) on her (in case I dont find a job) , will I still be able to shift to H1 in the middle of the year or should I wait until Apr 2010 until the qouta opens? I also would like to know how long it takes for a H1 to H4 transfer and what are the procedures for the same.
Yes h1 to h4 is possible. Might take around 3-4 months. Cant leave US till you get a response. You can come back on h1b when you get another job. You will not be counted against any cap, will not have any time limitation and period spent on h4 will not be counted against your h1b time. However USCIS knows people are doing this so ofcourse there is increased scrutiny while going from h4 to h1

I understand you are trying to throw all you have here but changing status from H1 to H4 to F1 to h1 will raise red flags. ofcourse can be done but dont expect USCIS to be happy about it. They might throw a bunch of RFEs so make sure your case is solid.
Consult with an immigration lawyer - that will be 200$ well spent. This is no joking matter. You need good advice. This forum can give you an idea but what you really need is professional advice
